Air Pollution in India
High Level of Air Pollution in Indian Cities
~75% of people in India live in areas where air pollution
(as measured by PM2.5—the most harmful one) is over the national average.
Ironically, India's national average of air pollution level is itself ~400%
higher than the global average. [1]
India is at 177th position among 180 countries in a recent
Global Environment Quality Index. [1]
People are Dying due to Air Pollution
~10% of children die before the age of five due to air
pollution in India, as per the WHO report in 2016. The percentage translates to
over one lakh children of the same age group. [2]
